This North Carolina Children, Youth, and Families at Risk (CYFAR) project uses community gardening to: empower communities to produce food for families, deliver hands-on nutrition education, create opportunities for youth to develop agri-related business skills, build leadership among community members, and provide engaging activities for family members of all ages to work together for a common purpose.

2011 Community Garden Kickoff Events

This spring all three of the North Carolina CYFAR Sustainable Communities Project gardens will have an event to kickoff the 2011 gardening season. Community members, town governments, Extension staff, local businesses, garden partners and all interested parties are invited. During the events residents will have an opportunity to sign up for garden plots and plant cool season vegetables, educational events will teach people about proper planting techniques and how to safely use garden equipment such as the rototillers, and information will be provided about opportunities for involvement in various aspects of these new community resources.

** We invite you to be a part of these 2011 Spring Gardening Events. **
